Message: Bought And Paid For
Hello My Friend,
Slave; A person who is wholly subject to the will of another. If you were to talk about slavery today the liberals would literally destroy you, but centuries ago it was not uncommon that a person was sold as a slave. For years people bought people to do servile work for them, and while there have been cases of abuse, most of the time they were treated properly. Servant; A slave; a bondman; one purchased for money. Think about it, we all work for someone and even if one owns their own company they work for those who buy their services, therefore we are all bought and paid for by someone. Now, think about what Jesus Christ did, He bought and paid for our souls with His life, that means we belong to God, we are His servants, well those who receive Him are, but that also means that we are free. “Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather. For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord’s freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ’s servant. Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.” – I Corinthians 7:21-23.
Being a servant of God is one of the most liberating things we will ever do, and let me tell you, total strangers will know that there is something different about you because you give off a light like no other. To remind Israel that God was always with them, the tabernacle was to have a continuous light shining from it. God commands them to never cease from bringing oil to keep the lamps burning, and also reminds Aaron what he what he was to do with them and the show bread.
“Command the children of Israel, that they bring unto thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamps to burn continually. Without the vail of the testimony, in the tabernacle of the congregation, shall Aaron order it from the evening unto the morning before the LORD continually: it shall be a statute for ever in your generations. He shall order the lamps upon the pure candlestick before the LORD continually. And thou shalt take fine flour, and bake twelve cakes thereof: two tenth deals shall be in one cake. And thou shalt set them in two rows, six on a row, upon the pure table before the LORD. And thou shalt put pure frankincense upon each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, even an offering made by fire unto the LORD. Every sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant. And it shall be Aaron’s and his sons’; and they shall eat it in the holy place: for it is most holy unto him of the offerings of the LORD made by fire by a perpetual statute.” – Leviticus 24:2-9.
“to cause the lamps to burn continually.” Oil represents Jesus who is the Light, He shines through every Christian who makes Him Lord of their lives. The cake represents Jesus, who is the Bread of life, He gives food and life to every soul that comes to Him. We are to never let His light go out in us, and we are to continually feed on Him daily so that we have no need to seek other means for food. And since Christ is in us, that means we are the light of the world, we are to never cease from letting His light shine through us. “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” – II Corinthians 4:6.
People reject God’s Word for so many reasons, even people who are saved disregard His Word as if it no longer applies to them because they believe the law of Moses as something just for the Jews. Let me tell you, there is no Jew or Gentile with God, yes, they are distinguished as such in order to show the difference between those who were born of the children of Israel and those who are not, but one law applies to all. Yes, there were some laws specific for Israel because they were of the same heritage, some in particular, being those who were poor and bought as servants.
“And if thy brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then thou shalt relieve him: yea, though he be a stranger, or a sojourner; that he may live with thee. Take thou no usury of him, or increase: but fear thy God; that thy brother may live with thee. Thou shalt not give him thy money upon usury, nor lend him thy victuals for increase. I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, and to be your God. And if thy brother that dwelleth by thee be waxen poor, and be sold unto thee; thou shalt not compel him to serve as a bondservant: But as an hired servant, and as a sojourner, he shall be with thee, and shall serve thee unto the year of jubile: Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids. Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession. And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour.” – Leviticus 25:35-40,44-46.
“and they shall be your possession.” To the world this is unacceptable, and quite frankly, a lot of Christians have a hard time accepting it as well, but think about this. Those whom have been bought and paid for by accepting Christ belong to Christ and are God’s family, therefore, they serve God, and are subject to Him. Those whom are not serve man and are under their possession, that is if they want to keep their jobs. When we belong to Christ, even though we serve Him we are not slaves, we are His friends. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you” – John 15:13-16.
Being saved does not mean we can never sin again nor that we forfeit our salvation when we do, but it does mean that we are now one of God’s people and should never take for granted the sacrifice that Jesus made for us. If it is confusing as to why the stranger who was bought and paid for became a possession to the one who bought them, and the child of Israel was to be compensated and set free after the jubilee, God explains here.
“And if a sojourner or stranger wax rich by thee, and thy brother that dwelleth by him wax poor, and sell himself unto the stranger or sojourner by thee, or to the stock of the stranger’s family: After that he is sold he may be redeemed again; one of his brethren may redeem him: Either his uncle, or his uncle’s son, may redeem him, or any that is nigh of kin unto him of his family may redeem him; or if he be able, he may redeem himself. And he shall reckon with him that bought him from the year that he was sold to him unto the year of jubile: and the price of his sale shall be according unto the number of years, according to the time of an hired servant shall it be with him. And if he be not redeemed in these years, then he shall go out in the year of jubile, both he, and his children with him. For unto me the children of Israel are servants; they are my servants whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.” – Leviticus 24:47-50,54-55.
“they are my servants whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt:” You see, the second we receive Christ as our Saviour we become His servants, therefore, His possession, the stranger on the other hand is subject to the one who bought them. Make sense? It all comes down to this, we are bought and paid for with the blood of Christ, He purchased our redemption, we belong to God, we are His possession, and He is ours as well. “I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.” – John 17:9-10,21. Praise God!
Jesus Christ Magnified: “Command the children of Israel, that they bring unto thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamps to burn continually.” – Leviticus 24:2.
Today’s Prayer: God, I will admit that I do not always understand Your plan for my life, I struggle a little every day to keep my head up when I want to just give up. I often wonder what I am doing wrong or what do I have to do for You change things, but in reality all You want from me is my faith and trust in You. Thank You Lord, for the times of rest, even in my labor to get me to draw closer to You and seek You for the things I need. Give me Your power, wisdom, guidance, and patience to wait for You, and let me not stop praising You even when I do not see You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
